Introducing UNINOVA

Based in Lisbon, Portugal, UNINOVA is a non-profit research institute focused on advancing innovation and research across a wide range of fields, including data processing, digital health, Industry 4.0, energy efficiency, cultural heritage, IoT, and defense, with an emphasis on developing interoperable, sustainable, and cutting-edge technologies.

The department specializing in electrical engineering, renewable energy systems, and energy management is the most involved in the Herit4ages project's activities, supported by the expertise from across the entire organization. With years of expertise in developing innovative energy solutions, UNINOVA actively contributes to the transition towards a more sustainable energy future. Their focus is on providing energy flexibility solutions through the development of state-of-the-art technology, ensuring that new advancements in energy systems remain sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective.

In Herit4agesUNINOVA is responsible for the Work Package 5 (WP5 - Energy Sustainable Integration). This work package addresses the need for energy flexibility and effective energy distribution in heritage buildings through the use of energy routers. UNINOVA deploys this advanced energy router technology to manage and optimize energy flows from integrated renewable sources like photovoltaic solar systems, energy storage solutions, and the local grid. The routers ensure that energy demand is balanced across the building and that no excess energy is wasted. Additionally, they integrate NILM (Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring) technology, enhancing the overall system's efficiency.

With their advanced engineering expertise, UNINOVA ensures that the energy systems developed for heritage buildings meet both sustainability targets and modern energy-efficiency standards, all while preserving the unique characteristics of these historic sites.
