Introducing Tyndall National Institute

As a world-renowned research centre based in Ireland, Tyndall National Institute has established itself as a leader in nanotechnology, semiconductors, and sensor development. With a focus on sustainability and energy efficiency solutions, Tyndall is at the forefront of driving technological advancements that support smart, energy-resilient cities and industries. Their work extends to energy storage materials, environmental sensors, and integrated electronic systems, all designed to optimize energy consumption and minimize environmental footprints.

In the Herit4ages projectTyndall plays several roles. It coordinates the project’s management activities and oversees evaluation and validation phases. Tyndall uses advanced simulation tools, such as DesignBuilder, to assess the energy efficiency and thermal performance of heritage buildings before and after renovation. They also develop environmental sensors for monitoring indoor air quality, temperature, and energy consumption in retrofitted buildings, allowing for continuous optimization of energy systems. Furthermore, Tyndall is responsible for creating weather data files, which are used to tailor solutions and simulate future scalability across different regions.

The institute’s expertise in advanced energy simulations and sensor integration ensures that Herit4ages solutions offer real-time insights into buildings’ energy behaviour, ultimately contributing to more informed and sustainable renovation practices.
