HERIT4AGES Featured in EEI Magazine

We are delighted to announce that the HERIT4AGES project has been featured in the Spring 2025 edition of European Energy Innovation Magazine (EEI), a leading publication dedicated to fostering dialogue around sustainable energy, innovation, and policy across Europe. EEI provides insights into how research projects, industry stakeholders, and policymakers can work together to deliver on the EU’s climate and energy goals.

The article, authored by FENIX TNT, explores the delicate balance between preserving historic architecture and enhancing energy performance - a challenge at the heart of the HERIT4AGES mission. Europe’s historic buildings represent not only cultural and architectural value but also pose unique challenges in terms of energy retrofitting and environmental sustainability.

The feature addresses how HERIT4AGES is developing reversible, non-intrusive, and cost-effective solutions to improve thermal comfort and energy efficiency in heritage buildings, without compromising their historical and architectural integrity. These include internal retrofitting techniques, the innovative Digital Twin Ecosystem (DTE) for real-time building performance monitoring, and smart energy systems that integrate renewables, storage, and intelligent energy management, all specifically adapted for heritage contexts.

A central takeaway from the article is our human-centric and inclusive approach. Through its Co-Creation Toolkit, the project encourages community involvement in the renovation process, promoting a stronger connection between conservation and contemporary use. Five culturally significant pilot sites across Spain, Italy, Portugal, and Estonia serve as living labs, showcasing how technology and tradition can coexist.

By demonstrating that energy-efficient renovation and cultural preservation can go hand in hand, HERIT4AGES is setting a new standard for heritage sustainability in the digital age.
